I really am worried about this. Where I work now we recently had a customer (a limited company) go under owing us nearly £30,000. Some of the other creditors got a bit suspicious and hired a private investigator. It turned out that the directors of this company had also been directors of seven other companies all of which had gone bankrupt owing well over £1million in total over the last 10 years. They had literally set up a company taken goods from the suppliers and then gone bankrupt. When they got away with it they did it again and again and again. You can't tell me that this was just bad luck.

Under these proposals these people will just carry on getting away with it. If it is not widely reported then there isn't going to be an investigation and they can carry on setting up companies to deliberately defraud suppliers.

:steam:

Zoe , it just amazes me. How the hell can this have been allowed to happen. Read in the paper that it was a record year for people going bankrupt. Well if people can get away with scams like this it is a very very poor thing. I am totally gobsmacked by it all. And also very B****Y angry

Seems to me that they get away with it because they can. They take advantage of the inadequate customer protection laws, shrug their shoulders, and do the same thing again. There are genuine business failures, not disputing that, but the example given earlier is just pure theft.
Robbers in suits. The common burglar would think twice about nicking kids presents. Not the corporate shysters who shafted us though. :x
